Our Expenses

Boarding

We typically have multiple dogs in boarding at the same time, to wait for transport to the rescue after they had to leave the pounds, or to wait until a rescue placement is found. We use multiple boarding kennels in different locations, and a day in boarding per dog is $20. Boarding costs, along with vetting, are our largest expenses at the moment.

Veterinary Costs

The veterinary costs vary from dog to dog, and do only apply to a small number of dogs we pull. On occasion, we have  medical emergencies coming in, or dogs need to be vetted before they can go into boarding. While we always try our best to arrange for transfer to rescues as soon as possible to minimize costs and to maximize the number of animals we can help, sometimes it is just not possible to get a sick or injured dog to a rescue the same day.

Live-Saving Donation

Costs to save one dog are typically roughly $85,  on average. While many of the dogs are able to travel straight from the pounds to their rescues without incurring any costs, some others (which of course we cannot leave behind, our poster dog Rufus is one of them) have required months in boarding or sizeable veterinary costs.  For some of the dogs, we also have to pay a pull fee of $65 for release from the pound.

Flights to Rescues

On occasion, we  have to fly dogs to their rescues (especially for those to which BSL applies). While we try to minimize our costs by relying on donated crates and other supplies whenever possible,  and have wonderful partners who help raise the cargo cost if needed,  the cost of putting together an airline travel package for a dog with new items if needed is roughly $200 or less, depending on the size of the dog (airline-approved crate, water container, blanket, etc).

Administrative Costs

We minimize these as much as we can, and also try to cover them ourselves if at all possible. They are a very small part of our budget but we do have to host our webpage and work with an accountant, for example. All of our team members are volunteering their time and we will not use your donation for any purpose other than the one you indicate on the form.

Frequently Asked Question: Can you issue a receipt for income tax purposes?

At this point, we cannot issue a receipt since we are not a charity yet. However, we are a registered Not-For-Profit Organization. We are a recently formed group, extending and building on previous work in animal rescue, and we are working on our charity status.
