We Need Your Help

At No Paw Left Behind, we are completely volunteer run and operated and all of our funds raised goes directly to cover expenses incurred while saving dogs. We are seeking donations to help with our current costs and wanted to be completely transparent with you about our expenditures and accomplishments for 2020 to date.

We are ecstatic to tell you that we’ve saved over 140 dogs since late last year and our very first kitten!

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers, partners in transportation and rescue and most importantly – Donors like You! It takes a village and all of these combined efforts make it possible for these very special dogs to journey to their forever homes after winding up in dire situations in shelters actively practicing euthanasia.

One factor that makes us unique in comparison to other rescues is that we do not adopt dogs to the public directly and only partner with reputable rescue groups with foster/adopt abilities. In our case we don’t collect any final adoption fees and thus always require cost recovery via donations.

Summary of Expenses

  • Shelter/Pound Fees $2525.71
  • Kennel Boarding over $10000
  • Flights and Airfare $1916.00
  • Veterinary Costs $1437.06
  • Miscellaneous $1200

Shelter/Pound Fees

It may come as a surprise to you but many shelters and pounds operate for profit models of business, and that means that although they reach out to us to help dogs at risk of euthanasia on short notice, if we do not step in to agree to rescue the dog it will be euthanized. Additionally, for some of the dogs we have to pay a s a $65 fee per dog to a pound.

Kennel Boarding

When we save dogs from the pound or shelter we need to get them to safely quickly as we arrange their logistics and find a rescue partner who can take the dog on and get them on your journey to be fostered or adopted. This means a stop in kennel boarding and our costs per day are typically $20 per dog.

Flights and Airfare

As BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) is still in place in Ontario, many BSL dogs that need to be saved must be moved to either the east or west coast rescue groups. Opportunities for adoption and better quality of life for these dogs outside of Ontario is an ideal scenario. We currently partner with WestJet and pay on average $450 per cargo flight per dog. In addition to the cost of the flight we sometimes need a Flight Buddy and our cost for that is $113 per dog/buddy.

Veterinary Costs

In some cases the dogs we’ve saved from the pound or shelter need immediate medical treatment and or require some vaccinations or requirements that may be essential or ideal in order to find a suitable rescue partner. Our first priority is the dogs health and safety and costs incurred are on a case by case basis. We are truly lucky as many of our rescue partners also take on the veterinary requirements for dogs in need.

Miscellaneous

We spend very little money that does not need to be spent outside of the above categories but volunteers currently fund nominal fees for a variety of minor expenses like; bank fees, accounting software, website expenses and advertising brochures.

Why We Do What We Do – Featuring IRISH!

At No Paw Left Behind we do not give up on any animal and will do our utmost to save the life of a dog at risk of euthanasia. We will not risk the potential safety of humans but know there are situations in which a fabulous dog has found themselves in a bad situation with some bad habits unfortunately. These cases will not be to be fast and quick to place due to their special considerations.

We pulled Irish when his time was up and no rescue had room for him. He is currently in boarding, and doing well so far. And the chain around his neck held together with a padlock as collar is now gone! We will give him a few days to wind down and, once we get to know him a little better, continue trying to find a rescue placement for him.

UPDATE AUGUST 2020: ATHENA HAS MOVED TO A RESCUE IN AUGUST. WE ARE THRILLED TO HEAR SHE IS DOING WELL SO FAR IN HER FOSTER HOME.  A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO HELPED MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!

Athena is one of these dogs. She is extremely loving and friendly but has adverse reactions to other dogs and this makes her very challenging to place. We realize that Athena needs a special home and an understanding and aware family. We believe there is a very special place out there for her but it will take us longer to find it. We think Athena deserves that chance and an opportunity to shine. She is not a lost cause but a special soul who through no fault of her own is in her current situation.

Athena has been a long term boarding resident and we are wishful and hopeful that we can find a solution for her. We will do whatever is required to set her up for success and are currently exploring getting her more personalized attention and one on one behavior training so that we can understand her challenges, potentially overcome them and put her in a better position to be successfully adopted by her forever home.

We believe in dogs like Athena and Irish and won’t stop trying to save them!
